Ghost Trees

Ghost Trees… read more.
I have been past this access trail many times and today I pulled off on the roadside just as the sun was sinking. I grabbed my camera bag (an old $2 JVC bag from the flea market) and headed south on the trail. The windy coolness forced me to put on gloves. The trail was icy so I made my way down to an empty irrigation ditch. Being below grade many of the distant houses were out of sight. A guy walking toward me wanted to know what I was photographing down in the ditch. I just said there was an infinite amount of subject matter and left it at that. He thought I was nuts. My hands were freezing which had me stopping often to warm them under my armpits. In about an hour I had dozens of exposures and headed back to the car. It always feels so refreshing to be out in the windy cold weather. In the car my thawing out process began. I put my camera back in the JVC case where it sat for a few days before I viewed my shots. Over the years I have referred to this landscape style as Ghost Trees. Whoever coined that name is genius. Here are 4 in-camera double exposures from that walk.
